FOR Anjul Gupta, May 23 was the red lettered day. On this day his class XII, CBSE result was declared and he had topped in his school Ved Vyas D.A.V. Public school Vikas Puri securing 95.8%. Incidentally, the lucky day for Anjul coincided with the birthday of his mother Kaushal Gupta. His excellent result was the most precious gift Anjul gave to his mother which she would always treasure in her heart.
Of course, Anjul had expected to top his school as he was a topper throughout. But he had more surprise in store for him. Anjul’s happiness knew no bounds when he came to know the next day that he had topped the Delhi region too. Says Anjul, “I did not believe my eyes when I opened the newspaper on May 24. The percentage of the CBSE topper profiled in the paper was tallying with mine. The principal of my school then confirmed my top position from the CBSE.
Anjul always wanted that if he topped, he should be way ahead of second ranker. This aim inspired him to work hard. Anjul never attended any coaching or tuition classes. He reveals, “I regularly studied for 8-10 hours a day right from the beginning of the session. Whatever difficulty I had was cleared by my neighbour Prashant Kumar, who is a student preparing for his GATE exam. He inspired me a lot. Anjul’s favourite subject is maths in which he secured 99% marks.
According to Anjul’s father P.K. Gupta, his son was a sincere student throughout. Though Anjul loves the company of his books, he is not a total bookworm. Anjul is crazy about cricket. He watched all the matches of the World Cup in which India played though these coincided with his examination days. Anjul loves to watch Cartoon Network and machinery related programmes on Discovery channel. For recreation, he watches Star Plus soaps.
However, for Anjul his most favourite way to relax is by reading newspaper and magazines. He is addicted to The Times of India.
Anjul’s dream to study in IIT has been realized. He has cleared not only the IIT entrance examination but also got into all the top notch engineering institutions like Delhi College of Engineering. Says Rajani Vasudeva, the vice principal of V.V.D.A.V, who taught Anjul Chemistry, “Anjul has proved that one can rely on school studies and coaching classes are really not required if one is regular in his studies.
